Google Releases Chrome 9 ....

Google has updated the stable branch of its Chrome browser to version 9. The latest stable release brings in many features Chrome beta users have been enjoying for several months, including Chrome Instant, WebGL support and access to the Chrome Web Store.

Chrome Instant is basically Google Instant but in the chrome URL/search box. For end users, the two most compelling features are WebGL support and the Chrome Web Store.

Chrome 9.0 brings stable support for WebGL. WebGL lets web developers create hardware-accelerated 3D graphics inside the web browser. We discussed WebGL and the Google Body experimentback in December. If you haven’t seen WebGL in action, be sure to check out the WebGL Experiments page (FYI my favorite is Aquarium).

The Chrome Web Store is now accessible to all users in the United States. Users can “install” free and paid web apps that are accessible in Google Chrome and in Chrome OS.

Some of these apps are just fancy bookmarks to HTML5-infused web pages, but some others really push the boundaries of what constitutes a web app. We reviewed ten of our favorite Chrome web apps when the store soft-launched a few months ago.

LOCAL POLLS ON MARCH 17

The Elections Commissioner has decided to hold the upcoming local government elections on March 17.

This was confirmed to Solar News by the Elections Secretariat.

The accepting of nominations for the local government elections concluded at noon today while appeals against the nominations will be accepted till 1.30pm.

The election will be held for 301 local government institutions.

කුසලානයක් කරායන අපැහැදිලි ගමනක්...!

2011 ක්‍රිකට් ලෝක කූසලානයට සියල්ල කඩිමුඩියේ මේ දිනවල සූදානම් වෙමින් පවතින මොහොතක ශ්‍රි ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් පාලක මණ්ඩලය විසින් පසුගියදා තම ලෝක කුසලාන කණ්ඩායම මාධ්‍ය වෙත නිකූත් කලේය. ඔබ දැනටමත් එම කණ්ඩායම හොඳාකාරවම දන්නා බව අපි දනිමු. මේ කණ්ඩායමට කැමැත්ත සහ අකමැත්ත දක්වන බොහෝ පිරිසක් වෙති. අකමැත්ත දක්වන පිරිස එක එකහෙලාම පවසන්නේ සනත් ජයසුරිය සහ චමින්ද වාස් එම කන්ඩායමට ඇතුලත් කරගත යුතු බවයි. එය අපට පෙනෙන ලෙසටනම් සාදාරනය. සනත් වෙනුවට එම කන්ඩායමට ඇතුලත් කර ඇත්තේ රංගන හේරත්ය. රංගන වෙනුවට සනත් ආදේශ කරානම් එය කිසි ලෙසක අපට අවාසි දායක වන්නේ නැත. මන්ද සනත්, රංගන වෙනුවට කන්ඩායමට ආවානම් පැමිනෙන්නේ මැදපෙළ පිතිකරුවෙකු ලෙස සහ වමත් දඟ පන්දු යවන්නෙකු ලෙසය. එලෙස බලන විට සනත් රංගනට වඩා බොහෝ ඉදිරියෙනි. රංගන තවමත් එක්දින ජාත්‍යන්තර තරඟ වලදී සනත් තරම් පදම් වී නොමැත. ( රංගන එක්දින තරඟ 9යි. සනත් තරඟ 444යි). සනත් ලකුනු අතර නැති බව සැබෑය. එහෙත් කඩුලු අතර සිටී. මැද පෙළ සිට Batting Power Play එකේදී හෝ ක්‍රියාත්මක වී වේගයෙන් ලකුනු තිහ හතළියක් ලබා ගැනීමට බැරුවා නොවේ. එහෙත් එය හේරත්ගේ පැත්තෙන් බැලුකල අහස පොළොව සේ වෙනස්ය. එය ඔබ ඔබේ හිතට එකඟව දන්නා කරුනකි. එහෙයින් ජයසූරිය රංගනට වඩා ගව් ගනනක් ඉදිරියෙනි. එහෙත් අවාසනාවට කුමන හේතුවක් මත හෝ තේරීම් කමිටුවට තවමත් නොතේරී ඇත.
එන්ගලන්ත ප්‍රාන්ත තරගාවලියේදී හොදම ක්‍රීඩකයා වුයේ චමින්ද වාස්ය. එහෙත් ඔහුට කණ්ඩායමේ ස්ථානයක් හිමි නොවූහ. බොහෝ දෙනෙක් පවසන්නේ දිල්හාර වෙනුවට වාස්ව ආදේශ කරන්නට තිබූ බවය. මෑතකදී දිල්හාර වාස් තරම් දක්ශතා දක්වා නොමැත. පිතිකරන පැත්තෙනුත් දිල්හාරට වඩා වාස් ඉදිරියෙන් සිටින බව මා ද ඔබද හොඳින් දන්නා කරුනකි. මෙවර අන්තර් සමාජ තරගාවලියේදී දිල්හාර ලකුනු 164ක් දි කඩුලු 8ක් දවාගනිද්දි වාස් ලකුනු 117ක් දි කඩුලු 9ක් දවාගෙන සිටි. එතෙනිනුත් පැහැදිලි වන්නේ දිල්හාරට වඩා වාස් ඉදිරියෙන් බවය. වාස් මේ තරගාවලියේදීද මීට පෙර ක්‍රීඩා කරන ලද එන්ගලන්ත ප්‍රාන්ත තරගාවලියේදීද ඉතා හොදින් ක්‍රීඩා කර ඈති බව අපට පෙනී යයි. වාස්ට වඩා දිල්හාරගේ වේගය වෑඩි බව අපි දනිමු. එහේත් ඔහුගේ පන්දුවේ වාස්ගේ තරම් දෝලනයක් සහ පාලනයක් නොමැත. තේරීම් කමිටුවට පන්දුවේ දෝලනයට වඩා වේගය අවශ්‍ය නම් දිල්හාරව ඇතුලත් කර ගත්තාට කමක් නැත. එහෙත් එයට ලසිත් මාලින්ගද සිටිති. අපට මෙතරම් වේග පන්දු යවන්නන් අවශ්‍යමත් නොමැත. මන්ද අපට ලැබී ඇති තණතීරුද මන්දගාමී තණතීරු වේ. එසේනම් අපට තවත් දෝලනයක්/පාලනයක් නොමැති වේග පන්දු යවන්නෙකුට වඩා වේගයත් සමග පන්දුව දෝලනයක් කල හැකි පන්දු යවන්නෙකු ලෙස වාස්ව ඇතුලත් කරගැනීමට තේරීම් කමිටුවට අවස්ථාව තිබුනි. එහෙත් එය එසේ නොවුනි. මේ වරද නැවත නිවැරදි කර ගැනීමට තවමත් කාලය තිබේ.
පන්දු යවන්නෙකු ලෙස සනත්ට වඩා පහළින් සිටින ක්‍රීඩකයිනුත් පිතිකරුවෙකු ලෙස වාස්ට වඩා පහළින් සිටින ක්‍රීඩකයිනුත් මේ කණ්ඩායමේ සිටී. මෙය ලෝක කුසලාන තරඟාවලියකි එහෙයින් මෙහිදී අත්හදා බැලීම් නොකල යුතුය.

CSE becomes best in Asia

The Colombo Stock Market (CSE) has become the Asia’s best Stock Market in 2010 with a surge of 96 percent while Indonesia that rose a 46.1 per cent becoming a distant second, the Economic Times reported.

The CSE’s main share index rose 21.74 points to 6,635.87. It has fallen 7.9 per cent since it hit an all-time high of 7,207.75 on Oct. 4 on year-end settlements, profit taking, and liquidity shortage.

“We will not see a similar surge next year, but we will see high activities with over 60 firms in line for listing,” said Danushka Samarasinghe, director at TKS Securities . “We expect 60 per cent rise with better earnings in 2011.”

The year saw a net foreign outflow of 26.4 billion rupees from the bourse, more than twice of last year's net selling of 11.4 billion rupees. On Friday, offshore investors sold a net 15.9 million rupees. The daily average turnover for 2010 was at a record 2.4 billion rupees, more than four times higher than the previous all-time high of last year's 593.6 million rupees. Friday's turnover was 1.3 billion rupees ($11.8 million).

Sri Lanka’s rupee ended flat at 110.94/96 a dollar in sluggish trade, currency dealers said. It has risen 3.06 per cent so far this year.   - Source -http://www.dailymirror.lk/

Julian Assange was arrested.....

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange  was arrested at a London police station. 

Adding an interesting twist to the ongoing (and recently escalating)WikiLeaks saga, the site’s founder, Julian Assange, has agreed to meet with UK police regarding allegations of sexual assault in Sweden and a pursuant extradition warrant.

Assange was added to Interpol’s wanted list last week; Sweden had issued an arrest warrant based on accusations of sexual assaultmade by two Swedish women. Assange has been calling these accusions a smear campaign.

The WikiLeaks founder is calling for supporters to contribute to his bail fund; he will need between £100,000 and £200,000. The exact amount is to be negotiated in court today.

Various governments and corporations have been putting some pressure on WikiLeaks and Assange over the past several weeks. The site’s DNS service, web servers and even bank accounts have all been shuffled around as high-profile entities such as Amazon, MasterCard and Paypal refused to work with WikiLeaks.

The site’s whistleblower mission has also been under particular scrutiny since its recent leak of more than 250,000 cables to and from U.S. embassies and diplomats, some of which expose the names of active operatives in secret and critical situations.

Assange has said he believes the United States is behind the arrest warrant and extradition attempt; indeed, many U.S. politicians have not had kind words for Assange in recent days. Several conservatives, includingSarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, have even said he should be assassinated or executed.

We’ll continue to follow WikiLeaks news as it unfolds, but at this point, even we’re wondering if the level of vitriol coming from U.S. politicians is enough to make Assange feel safer in the custody of police than on the street.

Petition supporting LTTE

A writ petition has been moved before the Madras High Court seeking to quash a judgment of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal, New Delhi, confirming the Centre's declaration that the LTTE is an unlawful association.

When the matter came up on Wednesday, the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, ordered that the matter be put up after three weeks.
